Add Phonetic Guides to your Pages to help literacy and language skills

Use Phonetic Guides in Pages/Keynote/Numbers to help your students break down words and pronunciation. Originally designed for Chinese, Japanese or Korean text, once you have enabled the featured there is nothing to stop you from using it on other languages or general literacy skills.

You will need to enable one of the Chinese, Korean or Japanese keyboards. Even if you never use the keyboard itself, by doing so you are unlocking the features of that keyboard.

Keynote - Apple

In part 2, of our series this week, we are taking a look at Keynote. The trick to learning Keynote is to forget all those menus and drop downs that you may have learnt using Powerpoint. The buttons are simply:

Paint brush - for formatting (it's dynamic so if you text selected it will format text, picture selected it format the picture)

+ Button - allows you to add new things to a slide, media (pictures and movies), tables, charts 2D and 3D, and shapes including Text boxes for additional text!

Spanner - For all the other bells and whistles you expect, including sharing to other people and apps, hyperlinks to websites and other slide etc.

Play Button - when you have your presentation ready for display!

Built from the ground up for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch, it makes creating a world-class presentation — complete with animated charts and transitions — as simple as touching and tapping. Everybody walk the dinosaur

"Open the door, Get on the Floor, Everybody walk the Dinosaur..." You know how the song goes! This app isn't about 80's nostalgia but it does allow you to go back in time and explore the globe in it's Proterozoic, Jurassic, Triassic and modern day states - with over 500 species to discover.

The app is beautifully animated, with billions of years covered. There's enough information in here to keep you entertained and informed for a while, and it also links you to further information through Wikipedia- on each of the species covered.

There are more than just dinosaurs covered and it's fascinating to see the evolution of the planet and it's continents over the years.

Frog Dissection without the mess

It's pretty obvious from the title what this app is about, but there is a lot more to 'Frog Dissection'. With impressive 3D graphics, videos and other nuggets of fun - this app has loads to offer on our green friends. Learn the differences between Frogs and Toads, compare how Frogs differ to Humans and when you are finsihed exploring the information, perhaps, you could do as the title suggest and discover the inner workings of the frog.

The app obviously saves you from having to perform an actual dissection, but for the additional information and graphics it worth downloading!

Pento

Pento - Beijing Xuning Technology Limited

This Notebook app, is unlike others in that it allows rich media information like online videos, snapshots from websites, as well as the usual text, annotation and pictures. In fact I would go as far as to say that the notebooks that you create are as good as books created in the likes of Book Creator!

Users can browse webpages directly within the app. From here you can grab good relevant videos and paste them directly into the notebook. When importing photos from your library, there are a nice range of effects that can be applied to give them a distinguished look.

The app is easy to use, and would be very useful for students (of all subjects and levels) to collate materials, revision notes, thoughts, relevant links and videos, in to one central notebook. You can create multiple notebooks, for each subject.

This is a relatively new app, so let's hope that it will grow with even more exciting features. It's currently Free in the App store.
